Keyboard shortcuts
Keep your hands on the keyboard.
These are the default Klips controls. Your saved assignments take precedence where customization is available.
Capture from anywhere.
Global shortcuts work while Klips is running in the tray. Another application or Windows may already own a combination; check the registration result in Settings.

Refine a selected area.
- C: enter area-selection mode; drag to create the selection. Hold Shift while creating it for a square.
- Arrow keys: move the selection by one source-image pixel. Shift changes the step to ten pixels.
- Ctrl + arrow keys: change the selection size. Add Shift for a ten-pixel step.
- [ and ]: decrease or increase padding. Shift changes the step to ten pixels.
- A: adjust the selection edges. Shift + A adjusts the edge nearest the cursor.
- Ctrl + click: select a connected area of similar color.
- Enter: apply Crop. Escape: clear the selection.
Pick a tool.
With no text field or contextual action taking priority: V selects objects, A draws arrows, L draws lines, R draws rectangles, E draws ellipses, T adds text, H highlights, P pixelates, B blurs, F draws freehand, N adds counters, S adds a spotlight, M adds a magnifier, D selects the ruler, C enters selection/crop, and I selects color. A selection or an active gesture can give a key a different contextual action.
Measure and zoom.
- Hold 1 for horizontal measurement or 2 for vertical measurement, then move the pointer.
- From Select with no selected object, arrow keys can temporarily measure along their axis; Shift switches inner and outer measurement.
- Click to keep a detected measurement as an annotation. The mouse wheel adjusts edge sensitivity.
- Ctrl + 0: fit the image. Ctrl + 1: 100%. Ctrl + 2: zoom to the selection.
- Ctrl + + / Ctrl + minus: zoom in or out.
Change an assignment.
Capture shortcuts and local editor commands have separate settings. Use Settings to see the effective assignment, resolve a conflict or restore a default. Not every temporary gesture or native text-field shortcut can be remapped.
